A Guide to Las Vegas's High Roller, the World's Tallest Observation Wheel (2024)

One of the most iconic scenes in Las Vegas is the Strip with its collection of resorts and casinos that make up the skyline. In 2014, the view got a little different when the High Roller opened at the Linq Promenade on the east side of the Strip.

Visitors to the 550-foot-tall observation wheel get spectacular 360-degree views of the city during the 30-minute ride. Up to 40 people can fit in each of the 28 air-conditioned cabins, enabling 1,120 people to ride the wheel at the same time.

During the nightly "Lights at The Linq" show, the wheel choreographs 2,000 LED lights to music in a colorful display. Sometimes the High Roller even features thematic colors for St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, and the Fourth of July.

History

Construction on the High Roller began on October 12, 2012. About a year and a half later, the High Roller lit up the Las Vegas sky for the first time—and in March 2014, the wheel took on its first ticketed passenger.

Guinness World Records designated the High Roller as “The World's Tallest Observation Wheel” when it first opened. It will maintain this distinction until the 689-foot-tall Dubai Eye Ferris wheel debuts in October 2020.

All the way through its fifth anniversary in 2019, the High Roller has rotated 63,030 times, and seen 450 weddings, 55 proposals, and 10 gender reveals.

Getting to the High Roller

The High Roller anchors the Linq Promenade, an open-air shopping district between the Linq and the Flamingo Las Vegas.

Riders can head to the wheelhouse to buy tickets and queue up for entrance to the High Roller. Ticket vending machines sit at the entrance to the Linq Promenade, or you can purchase your ticket online.

The High Roller recommends anticipating about an hour between buying tickets, waiting to get onto the ride, and one complete rotation around the wheel.

Tickets and Hours

Daytime tickets cost $25 per adult and $10 per child, while nighttime tickets cost $37 per adult and $20 per child. Buy online for discounts.

The High Roller is open daily from11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Special Events

Happy Half Hour: Why, of course you can drink on the High Roller. Customers can purchase drinks in the wheelhouse or take part in a happy hour on the High Roller— complete with a bartender. Open daily from noon to 1 a.m., the happy hour includes a 30-minute ride and an open bar. Guests must be 21 and older to ride in a bar cabin. Happy Half Hour tickets cost $40 during the day and $55 at night.

Yoga in the Sky: Riders can get their exercise in with Yoga in the Sky, a one-hour experience that includes a silent Savasana instructor. Participants are fitted with a headset that enables them to hear the instructor during two revolutions of the wheel. Each cabin can fit up to six guests, and reservations must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

The Chocolate Experience: From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday, a chocolate ambassador will lead you through samples of handcrafted chocolates, courtesy of Las Vegas-based Ethel M Chocolates. The best part? Your chocolate comes paired with a glass of wine (of course, only those 21 and older can drink). Tickets are $45 a person.

Weddings: Couples can invite up to 40 guests to watch them get married on the High Roller. The bridal party can add flowers, music, photography, cinematography, and even an Elvis minister. Rates vary.

If you're feeling hungry, the Flamingo Las Vegas features restaurants such as Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips, In-N-Out Burger, Off The Strip Bistro, and Maxie’s.

Other entertainment in the Linq Promenade includes O’Sheas casino, the Fly Linq zip line, Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club, and Brooklyn Bowl.
